Founded in 1995, Child Advocates – Denver CASA advocates for the best interests of abused and neglected children in the Denver Juvenile Court through the services of trained community volunteers from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
CASAs play an essential role in both the child welfare and legal systems, not just as advocates but also by providing an important sense of stability to the children they are representing. After other professionals rotate out of the case (as commonly occurs in both systems), CASAs are often the only people familiar with the case history and, equally important, the most able to forge close and trusting relationships with the child. Denver CASA is committed to advocating for a safe and nurturing environment in which children can thrive. To date, the organization has advocated for more than 4,800 child victims of abuse and/or neglect, giving these children the best chance of a successful outcome. In 2017, more than 250 CASA volunteers advocated for 527 child/youth victims of abuse and neglect cases. In 2018, Denver CASA aims to advocate for more than 665 children/youth by the year’s end.
